Surface Roughness
Here is a PDF of a presenation by someone on various means of measuring surface roughness... concerned with machined surfaces, and the really small differences there, but a brief overview of lots of different terms. No references.

How to build a tin can waveguide antenna

this is the site that tells how to build a WiFi waveguide antenna out of a tin can. Baby formula cans seem to be a handy size... much simpler to build than a yagi, and these guys claim that they are better. We've used one at Hopkins with good results.

Power over Ehernet
PoE (Power over Ethernet) How To - NYCwireless

Hmm, interesting... description of a cheap way to put 12V DC power over ethernet cabling... useful for powering wireless access points, and might have other uses for field sites... I'm wondering if we could power a hub out at the pump house with something like this.

External antenna for network card

DlinkDwl650Plus - SeattleWireless

this is a site discussing getting linux drivers for the D-Link 650+ card... no info yet about getting an external antenna going, but I asked for some.

Adding an antenna to the D-Link DWL-650

Lots of messing around in the lab lately, trying to extend thhe range of wireless networking... we want to get data access out at the weather station so that various camera projects can feed straighnt back to the lab... we could just use the cat-5 cble that is running out there, but this is a lot more fun.

Early Post

Oh, and forgiven the typos. I have a large banfdage on my rights middle finger from an onion accident... I keep hitting multiple keys. It will go away.

Why me? Do I really have anything important to say?

No... go away. This blog is to help me keep track of the many projects that I start and never finish... basically, using the Google toolbar (get it!) to remember the sites I've visited trying to track down info.
